cronissa (Godart, [1824])

Type material. Pieris cronissa assumes the type of Papilio cronis Cramer, 1775, because it is a replacement name ( see cronis above).
Type locality. “ West-Indiën ”; most probably Surinam ( see cronis above).
Taxonomic status. Pieris cronissa is a superfluous replacement name for Papilio cronis Cramer, 1775 and is invalid as a junior objective synonym of that name. As Cramer’s type of cronis was an artefact, made up of the forewings of an H. cronis specimen and the hindwings of a pierid butterfly (fig. 14), Godart ([1824]) decided to treat it as a pierid and unnecessarily gave it a new name.
