Diagnosis. Body deep and compressed, head large; mouth slightly oblique. Dorsal-fin spines strong, normally graduate, not filamentous. In front of both jaws, 4–6 conical teeth, followed by 3–5 to five rows of rounded molar like teeth, one enlarged molar posteriorly on both sides of each jaw. Preopercular flange and interorbital naked. More than 5 scale rows between 5th dorsal-fin spine base to lateral line. Six valid species, two in Pakistani waters.
