Chironomus daitoefeus Sasa et Suzuki, 2001b: 66 . syn. n.

Specimens examined: Japan: Ryukus, Okinawa Pref., Minamiadaito Is., Hyotan-ike Pond, holotype ♂ of Chironomus daitoefeus, 29. iii. 2001, H. Suzuki, [specimen No. 412:094 (NSMT-I-Dip 5 433)] .

Chironomus circumdatus is characterized by the following combination of characters: AR 3.13-3.54; scutal vittae darkened on their outer and inner margins; distal ends of tarsomeres 1–4 and tarsomere 5 of all legs brown; LR 1 1.65-1.68; abdominal tergites 2–5 each with large oval spot on meson; superior volsella long, slender, nearly parallel-sided, strongly tapered at tip and strongly hooked ventrally. These characters are completely consistent with those of C. daitoefeus .
