Colletes salsolae Cockerell 1934: 65, ♀ (holotype: ♀, Khor Garar, Sudan, 26.III.1926, W. Ruttledge [NHML]); Kuhlmann 1998: 572.
Colletes omanus Kuhlmann 2003: 726, ♂ (holotype: ♂, J. Huwarrah, Oman, 24.III.2000, Gillet [OÖLM]); Kuhlmann 2004: 80; Kuhlmann 2014: 649–650. Syn. nov.
Comments. A re-examination of the type of C. salsolae revealed that it belongs to the C. squamosus group (stated as “ungeklärte Gruppenzugehörigkeit” by Kuhlmann 2000) and that it is identical with C. omanus described from Oman. Colletes salsolae seems to be widespread on the southern Arabian Peninsula (Kuhlmann 2004, 2014) but the type specimen so far is the only record from the African continent (Sudan, Khor Garar, 37°07'E 19°58'N).
