Genus Pulvinaria Targioni Tozzetti, 1866
Type species. Coccus vitis Linnaeus, 1758, by original designation.
Generic diagnosis (adult female). The genus Pulvinaria is here treated as sensu lato following Hodgson (1994), with the following diagnostic characters: a white ovisac secreted from under the female’s body; several types of ventral tubular ducts present in a submarginal band and/or in the medial area of the body; a few dorsal tubular ducts present or absent; and each leg with a tibio-tarsal articulatory sclerosis and free articulation.
