Tycherobius superbus (Canestrini)

Neophyllobius superbus Canestrini, 1889: 523; Berlese, 1894: 71; Berlese, 1900: 289. Tycherobius superbus; Bolland, 1986: 206 (redescription).

Diagnosis

Adult female. Dorsal idiosomal setae lanceolate; c1 (140) and d1 (115) much longer than others; pdx absent; femur I with 3 setae; femur III with 2 setae.

Distribution and habitat

ITALY. Padovano: habitat unknown (Canestrini 1889; Berlese 1894, 1900).

Remarks

This species has a unique character in that femur I bears only 3 setae and a rare character in that femur III bears 2 setae.

As indicated by Bolland (1986), Berlese’s description of a male is of another species rather than T. superbus because it has 5 setae on femur I. Bolland (1986) correctly recognized Kuznetsov & Livshits’ (1979) T. superbus as a synonym of T. polonicus Bolland, 1986 .
