Cryptogonus Mulsant, 1850: 944 . Kapur, 1948: 86.

Type species: Coccinella orbicula Gyllenhal, in Schönherr, 1808, by subsequent designation.

Diagnosis. The genus Cryptogonus can be distinguished from the other genera of Aspidimerini by the following combination of characters: clypeus covering labrum partially (Figs. 1a, 2b, 3b); antenna with nine antennomeres with antennal club clavate, as long as width of a scape (Fig. 1b); mentum large, sub-trapezoidal with small notch at midpoint of anterior margin (Fig. 1d); prosternum with two pair of carinae (Fig. 1c); fore and hind leg with trochanter and femur forming a continuous rounded line on inner margin (Figs. 1f, g); abdomen with six ventrites of variable lengths and abdominal post-coxal lines incomplete (Figs. 1e, 2d, 3d).
