Chlaenius (Chlaeniostenus) subgenus Kuntzen, 1919

The subgenus Chlaeniostenus is very speciose with about 63 species distributed throughout Australia, Afrotropical and Oriental Regions (Lorenz 2021). A detailed diagnosis of this subgenus can be found in Kirschenhofer (2010, 2019). There are only some minor country revisions of the subgenus (e.g., Kirschenhofer 2010, 2019). Lorenz (2021) recognized 35 species for the Afrotropical Region (seven of them previously recorded in Guinea-Bissau (Laferté-Sénectère 1851; Brivio 1957; Serrano 2003). Two new species are described with localities for this country.
