Remarks. This species has a circum-tropical distribution. Within Japan Cypretta seurati has been reported from rice fields in central and west Honshu, and freshwater coastal rock pools on Yakushima (Okubo 1973; Smith & Kamiya 2006). The nine specimens recovered in the littoral zone of Lake Biwa in this study represent the first Japanese record from a lake. The small number recovered may indicate that it is not a permanent resident of the lake. Locality (Fig. 1): 25
