Distribution. Western Atlantic—Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Guianas, and Brazil (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul) (Fausto-Filho 1967; Coelho & Ramos 1972; Campos & Manjarés 1991; Bolaños et al. 2006 as Heterocrypta tommasii; Boos et al. 2012).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatumirim (Fransozo et al. 2012), Ubatuba (Bertini et al. 2004, 2010; Nucci & Melo 2012), Caraguatatuba (Braga et al. 2005), and Cananéia (Melo et al. 2003; Tan & Ng 2007) as Heterocrypta tommasii . The original description was published in a note with four unnumbered pages and one figure, by Dr. Henrique Rodriguez da Costa (Holthuis 1968), for this reason we do not have this information.
