Etymology: The name is derived from the Latin punctatus, dotted, in reference to the cuticular punctures.

Holotype: M-2232 (Figs 3–5), Ettore Morone collection, Turin, Italy (available through the AMNH), male, adult; specimen entirely preserved and observable dorsally and ventrally; the piece is a transparent, orange in colour, 23 mm × 11 mm in largest dimensions; without syninclusions.
