ORIGINAL DATA. — This species was not trapped during our field surveys. Two individuals of this species had previously been recorded at the beach in Batoke and in disturbed forest and plantations (Fedden & MacLeod 1986), but this species was not sampled during our field surveys.

HABITATS AND DISTRIBUTION. — This species is widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa (Monadjem et al. 2016), from Sierra Leone to Ethiopia and southward to northeastern South Africa. This species inhabits tropical rainforest and wooded savannah where it roosts singly or in small groups within hollow trees, furled leaves, and under dead leaves of banana plants (Happold 1987; Monadjem et al. 2010 a; Happold 2013l). Happold (1987) noted that this species prefers habitats close to rivers and streams, bordered by forest perhaps because they hunt prey above water bodies.
