(Figs. 3, 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, and 44)

Diagnose. Three pairs of frontal setae, 1st and 3rd pairs strong; 1 supra-alar setae; 2 post-supra-alar setae; anepisternum with 7 setae; hind femur swollen, AV surface with 6 strong setae aligned on apical third, ventral face with 5 setae on apical third, 3rd and 4th setae curved at apex; hind tibia on the A surface with 1 preapical seta.

Description. Male (holotype): length: body: 3 mm, wing: 3 mm.

Coloration. Head. Fronto-orbital plate with back background color and grayish pruinosity. Antenna brownish. Arista brownish. Lunule brownish. Thorax black with brownish pruinosity. Wings hyaline. Fore and mid tibiae brown.

Thorax. Intra-alar setae 1+2. Postpronotal lobe with 2 setae. Katepisternal setae 1+2, with setulose area.

Legs. Mid femur on AD surface with series of strong setae reaching limit of apical third and 1 strong preapical seta, V surface with series of long and spaced setae, PD surface with 2 preapical setae, PV surface with series of long setae on femur, reduced at base and apex. Tibia on A and PV surfaces without strong setae, PD surface with 1 apical seta. Hind femur swollen, D surface with 1 preapical seta, A surface without strong setae, P surface without strong setae, PD surface with 1 preapical seta; tibia on AD surface with 1 median seta and 1 preapical seta, V and PV surfaces without strong setae.

Abdomen. Fifth sternite rectangular on anterior margin, concave on posterior margin with extensions forming acute angle, shallow medially (Fig. 24). Terminalia. Cercal plate rounded externally on posterior margin (Fig. 32). Surstyli with a notch, curved towards center of cercal plate (Fig. 32). Phallus straight and long, tapered near apex, pregonite triangular with 1 seta, distiphallus bifurcated with denticles on membrane (Fig. 40).

Female. Differs from male in the following: mid femur on V and PD surfaces without strong setae; mid tibia on A and PV surfaces with 1 apical seta, PD surface without strong setae. Hind femur not swollen, AV surface with 3 setae on apical half, V surface without strong setae, PV and P surfaces with 1 preapical seta, PD surface without strong setae. Terminalia. Seventh sternite trapezoidal, 8th sternite long (Fig. 44b). Hypoproct rounded at apex (Fig. 44b). Cerci digitiform (Fig. 44).

Considerations. Holotype with thorax pierced by the pin, which made it impossible to visualize the post-sutural acrostichal setae. Terminalia dissected and placed in a micro tube with glycerin, pinned together with the specimen.

Distribution

The Micropotamia species are widely distributed; however, there are extensive geographical areas with little or no collection records. Previously, Micropotamia species were distributed in the following regions in Brazil ( M. amazonica: Amazonas and Roraima; M. cilitibia: Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, and Rio Grande do Sul; M. minuscula: Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo) and Mexico ( M. fuscisquama: Guerrero) (Fig. 45A) (Löwenberg-Neto & de Carvalho 2013). This contribution has broadened the known distribution of species in Brazil and Costa Rica, as follows: Brazil: Acre, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo; Costa Rica: Puntarenas Province (Fig. 45B).
