5.1. Capsicum annuum plant material sources and growth conditions
In this study, accessions of Capsicum annuum L. (Solanaceae) previously screened for resistance to Phytophthora capsici (Leon.) ( Pythiaceae, Peronosporales), thirty seven exotic and domestic hybrids and inbreeding lines of commercial C. annuum accessions from different seed companies were utilized for genetic variability (Supplementary Table 2) (Bagheri et al., 2020). Out of which, three resistant (‘37ChilPPaleo’, ‘19OrnP-PBI’ and ‘23CherryPOrsh’) and three susceptible (‘2BP-PBI’, ‘24BP-301’ and ‘26BPRStarlet’) C. annuum accessions were used for enzyme activities analysis by inoculating an active P. capsici isolate on susceptible ‘Bell Pepper-301 ′ under “accession no. MH924840 ”, provided from Plant Protection Research Department, Agricultural and Natural Resource Research and Education Center, Isfahan, AREEO, Iran (Bagheri et al., 2020).
