Hylophilus grandicornis was never described. Pic (1952) refers to this taxon, and the Zoological record (1923, vol. LX) indicates a reference for this description (Mélanges Exotico-Entomologiques, Vol. 38, p. 4), but after a careful check, I found no such description in the volume cited, nor in the entire publications by Pic in Mélanges Exotico-Entomologiques. I also surveyed a large number of Pic’s papers where Aderidae were discussed and could not find the trace of a description of this taxon. Winkler’s catalogue, 1927 does not list it either. Leaning on the ZCN article 11.1 (ICZN, 1999), I therefore consider that the name Hylophilus grandicornis Pic is not an available name, although, there is a single specimen from Pic’s original collection at the MNHN labelled “ Hylophilus grandicornis n. sp. ”. I suppose that the description has remained in litteris.

In 1927, Pic described a variety of Hylophilus grandicornis under the name Hylophilus grandicornis v. obscuricornis . The description is limited to 3 words (Antennis nigro-piceis) and was made in reference to grandicornis s. str. After examining the type specimen of this taxon in Pic’s collection (MNHN), it appears to be a bona fide species. I therefore consider that the name Hylophilus obscuricornis Pic, 1927 is available, and that this taxon should be placed in the genus Zarcosia, under the name Zarcosia obscuricornis (Pic, 1927), comb. nov.

Finally, the type in litteris of Hylophilus grandicornis is similar to that of Hylophilus obscuricornis Pic, 1927 and belongs to this taxon.
