Range:— Greater Antilles; southern Mexico to northern Bolivia (LP, PA).
Ecology:— Uncommon and local; terrestrial in humid forests; to 1700 m.
Notes:— Formerly treated as a subspecies of Saccoloma elegans Kaulf., S. chartaceum was elevated to full species rank by Schwartsburd (2022). A distinctive species with 1-pinnate blades and confluent, submarginal sori. Juvenile plants can, however, be confused with juveniles of species of Metaxya C.Presl ( Metaxyaceae) and Salpichlaena J.Sm. ( Blechnaceae) (Tuomisto & Groot 1995).
