Type material. Holotype ♂ from AFRICA: Cameroon (= Camerun): Maroua (= Marua) (10°35’N, 14°19’E; 402 m alt.), collector unknown, date unknown, repository SMF, not examined (good illustrations of this species are available in Roewer 1960: fig. 448a and Alderweireldt 1996: figs 5–11, 20, and can be used for comparative purposes).
Material examined. INDIA: Odisha (formerly Orissa): Ganjam, at the edge of Chilika Lake (= Chilka Lake), Barkuda Island (19°33’N, 85°08’E; 13 m alt.), 28 August 1919, leg. F.H. Gravely: 1 ♀ (NZC-ZSI 2886/H2) . MYANMAR: Tanintharyi Region: Dawei (formerly Tavoy) (14°04’N, 98°11’E; 5 m alt.), date unknown, leg. Moti Ram: 1 ♀ (NZC-ZSI 8275/6) . SRI LANKA: Kandy: Peradeniya (7°15’N, 80°36’E; 596 m alt.), 26 June 1910, collector unknown: 1 ♀ (NZC-ZSI 5149/H2). 1 ♀ (NZC-ZSI 5150/ H 2), no other details except 8 January .
Distribution., Africa to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and India: Bihar, Odisha (Gravely 1924; Tikader & Malhotra 1980; World Spider Catalog 2023).
Notes. The NZC-ZSI collection has four glass tubes for this species. A tube (2886/H2) contains one female specimen in fairly good condition, with broken legs and intact genitalia. A second tube (8275/6) contains a female specimen in bad condition. There is a paper strip in this tube mentioning ‘Taken by Dr. Tikader Female’. A third tube (5149/H2) contains a female specimen in bad condition. A fourth tube (5150/H2) contains a female specimen in good condition with intact genitalia. The label in this tube mentions only the date of collection (8 January), and does not mention about the collector or collecting locality of this specimen.
