24. Simulium (Gomphostilbia) sheilae Takaoka & Davies, 1995

Simulium (Gomphostilbia) sheilae Takaoka & Davies, 1995: 60 –65 (Female, male, pupa and larva).

This species was described from females, males, pupae and larvae collected from Fraser’s Hill (Takaoka and Davies, 1995). It is characterized in the female by the elongate sensory vesicle, in the male by the hind basitarsus

medium to dark brown except basal one-third grayish (not clearly whitish) and in the pupa by the short common basal stalk and terminal hooks with outer margins smooth or slightly undulate (Fig. 5C,D).

The aquatic stages were found in streams at low to medium elevations (159–711 m) in various areas of Peninsular Malaysia.

This species was recorded from Sarawak, Sabah, Sumatra and Thailand (Takaoka, 2001a, b; Takaoka et al., 2000; Kuvangkadilok and Takaoka, 2000).
