18. Simulium (Gomphostilbia) dentistylum Takaoka & Davies, 1995

Simulium (Gomphostilbia) dentistylum Takaoka & Davies, 1995: 51 –55 (Male, pupa and larva).

This species was described from males, pupae and larvae (Takaoka and Davies, 1995). It is characterized in the pupa by the gill with eight short slender filaments arranged as 2+(1+3)+2 from dorsal to ventral, antennal sheath with 10 ridges covered with tubercles, and thoracic integument covered with cone-like tubercles, and in the larva by the deep postgenal cleft and deep constriction between abdominal segments 4 and 5.

The pupae and larvae were collected from a small stream on Fraser’s Hill (type locality). No additional specimens were available. This species was once recorded from Thailand based on a pupa (Kuvangkadilok and Takaoka, 2000). This was a misidentification of S. (G.) ngaoense Takaoka, Srisuka & Saeung, recently described from Thailand (Takaoka et al., 2018a)
