36. Simulium (Gomphostilbia) novemarticulatum Takaoka & Davies, 1995

Simulium (Gomphostilbia) novemarticulartum Takaoka & Davies, 1995: 77 –79 (Female); Takaoka et al., 2010: 59–67 (Male, pupa and larva).

This species was described from two females collected from Forest Reserve in Bentong, Pahang, Peninsular Malaysia (Takaoka and Davies, 1995). The male, pupa and larva of this species were described based on specimens collected from Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand (Takaoka et al., 2010). This species is similar to S. (G.) charlesi but is distinguished by the male style not widened, and the pupal gill with eight filaments arranged as 3+3+2 from dorsal to ventral, of which the inner filament of the ventral pair is subequal in length and thickness to the outer filament.

The immature stages breed in medium-sized lowland streams.

This species was also recorded from southern Thailand (Takaoka et al., 2010).
