(Melastomataceae) in Philipp. J. Sci. 23(3): 256. 1923. TYPE:—CHINA. Hainan: Wuzhishan, Wuzhi Shan, 1922-05-01, F. A. McClure 2834 (i.e. Canton Christian College 9391) (syntype: PNH, destroyed, A 00073211 image!).

McClure 9391 was the only gathering cited in the protologue of the name Sonerila hainanensis Merr. (Merrill, 1923). However, the collecting number on the label of the syntype specimen exists in A is 2834, while its herbarium number is Canton Christian College Herbarium 9391. Thus, the collecting number cited in the protologue is to be corrected.
