Remarks. Although the two specimens examined are much smaller than the type material of Heteropolyonyx biforma, they agree well with the original description. The genus Heteropolyonyx includes only the type species.
Distribution. Known only from Kushimoto, Kii Peninsula, south Japan, at the depth of 20 m, in the tube of the annelid Chaetopterus sp. (Osawa 2001). The present record of the species from New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands greatly extends its distribution to the southern hemisphere. The specimens examined were collected at depths of 34– 45 m.
