Distribution: Widespread in Europe, also known from Mongolia. First record for Russia (East Siberia).
Note: Based on the respective descriptions (Alexander 1924, 1938), P. (P.) squalens subpoetica (Alexander, 1924), from the Russian Far East, and P. (P.) squalens multidentata (Alexander, 1938), from North Korea, differ from P. (P.) squalens in the structure of the male terminalia and most probably represent valid species. The record by Gelhaus & Podenas (2006) from Mongolia almost certainly pertains to P. squalens . Pilaria discicollis (Meigen, 1818)
