Eugenia alnifolia has a restricted distribution, with only 3 known collections, being endemic to the state of Michoacán, in the municipality of Coalcoman and Aquila, from 500 to 1,200 m elev. The type of biome in which it occurs is the Dry and Humid tropical forest found in the region known as “Sierra de Coalcoman”.The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) fall between the thresholds of Critically Endangered and Endangered categories, under the criterion B. The major threat to this species is habitat loss and degradation due to deforestation and territorial conflicts over the Sierra de Coalcoman and its natural resources. There is an inferred continuing decline in quality of habitat due threats, lack of effective actions in environmental policies, and the poor organization from the government entities for territorial ordering and peace. Based on the available records, it is inferred only three locations. Eugenia alnifolia is classified here as Endangered (EN) under the criteria B1ab(iii)+B2ab(iii). Currently, it does not appear to benefit from adequate protection, with no viable subpopulation present in any secure reserve, thus conservation actions such as site protection and seed banking based on field work is strongly recommended, as well as further information to assess population size, local threats, and habitat trend.
