Celes variabilis (Pallas, 1771)
This species has been demonstrably found at only two localities in the CR (Görtler 1946; Chládek 1988). Individuals were last observed in the1960s. No population is known from these localities, and the species must be considered regionally extinct (Holuša 2012). C. variabilis occurs on steppes, sands, and similar areas (Kočárek et al. 2005). The area of such sandy and shallow-soil grasslands is very limited and isolated in the territory of the CR (Chytrý et al. 2010; AOPK 2011). The closest known area of C. variabilis occurrence is in Austria (Berg & Bieringer 1998), ca. 130 km distant.
