Diagnosis. Shell compressed, ovate, right valve slightly larger and deeper than left valve, posterior end sub-truncated; sculpture of narrow commarginal growth lines; pallial sinus shallow.

Type species. Sphaenia californica Conrad, 1837 (by monotypy).
