Kiwaia (Empista) spinosa (Povolný, 1976): Sattler, 1988: 234; Povolný, 2002: 101.

Material examined. Holotype ♂ "Tukucha, Palpa, 6.v.1968, 2600 m ", " Nepal, T. Kumata", "Jp. 4833", gen. slide Jp. 4833 (SMNK).

Description. Adult (Fig. 17): Wingspan 14.0 mm. Head, thorax and tegulae grey mixed with black, frons lighter, grey; labial palpus up-curved, brown with white medial and apical belts, inner surface of segment 2 light grey, segment 3 about 1.5 times shorter and 1.5 times narrower than segment 2; scapus brown, other antennal segments brown with white rings; forewing grey, costal margin black, black dash under 1/4 of costal margin, two diffuse black spots and black dash near base in mid-width, black spot near base of dorsal margin, diffuse black pattern from 1/3 to about one half length in cell, two black dots in the middle of cell, apical area weakly mottled with black; cilia grey black tipped; hindwing light grey.

Male genitalia (Fig. 44): Uncus twice longer than broad on base, gradually narrowed, posterior margin with small medial incision; gnathos weakly curved, rather stout; tegumen nearly parallel-sided, anteromedial emargination deeply rounded; valva moderately broad, about of equal width, tapers into long thorn, not reaching the middle of uncus; sacculus broad, weakly curved inwards, 1/3 as long as valva; vinculum slightly broader than long, posteromedial emargination broad, vincular processes broadly rounded, covered apically with dense hairs and rare spines; saccus stout, broad; phallus nearly straight, caecum weakly inflated, top rounded, apical arm well developed.

Female unknown.

Distribution. Nepal.

Remarks. As far as one can judge after the slightly worn holotype K. (E.) spinosa seems to be most related externally to K. (E.) kostjuki (for differences see under that species). The male genitalia can easily be recognized by the narrow prolonged uncus and the apically tapered valva.
