40. Gonatopus karooensis Olmi, Copeland & van Noort, sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Apterous ♀ of Gonatopus with palpal formula 6/3; head excavated; pronotum crossed by strong transverse furrow; metapectal-propodeal disc and propodeal declivity totally ferruginous; metapectal-propodeal disc sculptured by irregular longitudinal keels; protarsomere 1 longer than 4; enlarged claw (Fig. 194A) with one large subdistal tooth and one row of lamellae.
Description. ♀ (Fig. 190). Apterous; body length 3.0 mm. Ferruginous, except petiole black and metasoma brown. Antenna clavate; antennomeres in following proportions: 11:7:14:9:7:5:5:4:4:7. Head excavated, shiny, granulate, except two large unsculptured areas on sides of frontal line; frontal line complete; occipital carina absent; temple distinct; POL = 1; OL = 3; OOL = 9; greatest breadth of lateral ocelli shorter than OL (2:3). Palpal formula 6/3. Pronotum shiny, with many slight longitudinal striae on disc and lateral regions; rest of surface unsculptured; pronotum crossed by strong transverse furrow. Mesoscutum shiny, sculptured with some longitudinal striae and with two strong, pointed apophyses laterally (Fig. 192G). Mesoscutellum shiny, smooth, sloping strongly anteriorly. Metanotum deeply excavated behind mesoscutellum (Fig. 192H), flat, strongly rugose, with sides protruding (lat- eral protrusions slightly pointed (Fig. 192G)). Metapectal-propodeal disc shiny, strongly sculptured by numerous irregular longitudinal keels and partly rugose; propodeal declivity transversely striate. Mesopleuron partly granulate and partly transversely striate. Metapleuron dull, transversely striate. Meso-metapleural suture distinct and com- plete, step shaped. Protarsomeres in following proportions: 17:3:5:14:22. Enlarged claw (Fig. 194A) with one large subdistal tooth and one row of five lamellae. Protarsomere 5 (Fig. 194A) with two rows of 14 lamellae; apex with at least 20 lamellae. Tibial spurs 1/0/1.

Etymology. The species is named karooensis after the collection site in the Karoo.
