Limnophora trigemina Stein, 1913: 519 .

(Figs 116–119, L. trigemina trigemina)

Emden (1951) recognised two subspecies: L. t. trigemina Stein and L. t. vumbana Emden, 1951: 430. Holotype male of L. t. vumbana seen; in good condition. Syntypes 2 females of L. t. trigemina destroyed, formerly in HNHM (Pont 2013: 114).

Diagnosis. Arista short plumose; postsutural dorsocentrals 4, the first two shorter; mid femur with 2 preapical setae; mid tibia with 1 posterior seta; lower katepisternal seta closer to the posterior one than to the anterior one; costal spine absent; sternite 5 as in Fig. 117.

Terminalia. Cercal plate and surstylus as in Figs 117–118. Aedeagal complex as in Fig. 119.

Notes. There is a long series of L. t. trigemina in the BMNH. One male of this subspecies was dissected and illustrated. The other subspecies is known only from the holotype male and was not dissected. Both subspecies differ basically in colour pattern of scutum and colour of calypters.
