Syzeton belovi n. sp.
(Figures 2h; 3h; 4b; 5h, m, p)
Etymology. This taxon is named after my colleague Vassili Belov, who provided most of the type series, in appreciation of his systematic efforts to collect Aderidae .
Type locality. United States: Texas. Brazos County, 5 km SW Wellborn, (80 m) [30°30’08” N 96°20’10” W] .
Distribution. United States: Oklahoma, Texas, Florida.
Description. Body length. ♂: 1.78± 0.11 mm (n=3) ♀: 1.83± 0.09 mm (n=5). Body and appendages entirely orange, head somewhat darker.
Head (Figure 4b). Transverse, dark-orange, slightly wider than pronotum. Frons convex. Palpi orange. Punctures sparse (spaces between punctures much wider than the puncture diameters), fine and deep. Pubescence uniseriate, long, very dense, white-golden, reclinate and converging toward the midline between the eyes.
Eyes convex, bulging, separated from the posterior edge of the head in side view by a distance the width of three rows of ommatidia. Eyes emarginate, with a deep anterior notch where the antennae are inserted, separated from each other by nearly two eye diameters in front view (Figure 4b, double arrow).
Antennae. Thick, covered with thin and stout setae, 80% the length of elytra in ♂♂, 60% in ♀♀, orange. Antennomeres 3–10 weakly conical, subquadrate in ♂♂, transverse in ♀♀, regularly thicker toward apex. Last antennomere twice as long as penultimate, rounded.
Pronotum. Transverse, regularly convex, pentagonal, with a straight base flanked by broadly rounded posterior angles, weakly diverging straight sides, and apex composed of two segments converging toward the head insertion in an obtuse rounded angle. Surface densely and coarsely punctate, the space between punctures equal to, or smaller than the puncture diameters, punctures large, deep. Pubescence uniseriate, long, raised, dense, golden.
Elytra. Length. ♂: 1.21± 0.06 mm (n=3) ♀: 1.32± 0.07 mm (n=5). Elongate (width/length ♂: 0.55±0.01 (n=3) ♀: 0.52±0.03 (n=5), sides subparallel, humeral angles well marked. Punctures dense, strong and deep, coarser than on the pronotum, space between punctures smaller than the puncture diameters. Disc weakly but regularly convex. Pubescence uniseriate, long, dense, silky, raised, golden (Figure 5p).
Legs. Simple, inconspicuous, orange. Foretibia straight and simple in both sexes.
Aedeagus (Figure 3h). Elongate, straight, regularly thinner from base to apex. Apex abruptly truncated in ventral view. Somewhat bent along its dorsal side in lateral view, with a slight sinuosity before the base, and no distinct process protruding ventrally (contrary to S. arizonae n. sp., Figure 3g).
Sexual dimorphism. Eyes more separated in ♀♀ than in ♂♂. Antennae shorter with antennomeres 3–10 transverse in females (note the difference with S. pallidus (Werner, 1990), Figure 5m, n and insets).
