Chelonus (Megachelonus) longqiensis sp. nov.

Description

Holotype, Ψ, length of body 5.39 mm, of fore wing 3.95 mm.

Head. Antennal segments 16; scapus, length of third segment 1.2 times fourth segment, length of third, fourth and penultimate segments 4.6, 4.0, 1.6 times their width, respectively; fourth­seventh segments comparatively elongate (Fig. 4 A); length of apical half of antennal segments distinctly longer than their width (Fig. 4 A); length of maxillary palp 0.9 times height of head; head in dorsal view roundly contracted behind eyes; temple slightly narrowed posteriorly; OOL: OD: POL=21: 11: 26; area between posterior ocellus and eyes coarsely and irregularly rugose; vertex excavated, coarsely rugose; frons rather concave, transversally striate with a median carina; face coarsely and irregularly reticulate­rugose (Fig. 4 B), densely setose in lateral view; clypeus transversally shortly striate­rugose laterally and densely punctate medially, with apical border straight (Fig. 4 B); length of malar space 1.6 times basal width of mandible.

Mesosoma. Length of mesosoma 1.5 times its height; pronotum coarsely rugose; mesoscutum evenly convex, irregularly reticulate­rugose, more strongly and coarsely rugose postero­medially; scutellum coarsely rugose; scutellar suture deep, with 4 carinae; mesopleuron evenly convex, coarsely reticulate­rugose; propodeum coarsely reticulaterugose, with a distinctly transversal carina connected with 4 blunt tubercles.

Wings. Length of fore wing almost 4.0 times its width; length of radial cell along metacarp 0.9 times pterostigma; 2­R1 just present; r: 3­SR: SR1= 4: 5: 1; SR1 somewhat curved; parastigma swollen, 1­CU1: 2CU1=1: 3.4; vein CU1b present (Fig. 4 C).

Legs. length of femur, tibia and basitarsus of hind leg 3.1, 3.8 and 3.8 times their width, respectively; length of both hind tibial spurs 0.5 times hind basitarsus.

Metasoma. Carapace elongate­oval, nearly parallel­sided, slightly contracted at apex as same as at its base; length of carapace 2.0 times its maximum width in dorsal view; carapace completely longitudinally striate, intersected by transversal striations (Fig. 4 D); carapace with two ventral­apical tooth­like protuberances and lamella around ventral opening, lamella narrow and short (Fig. 4 D, E); apical third of carapace with a rather deep groove ventrally (Fig. 4 F); ventral opening comparatively narrow;.

Colour. Black; scapus dark brown; palp brownish yellow; mandible reddish brown except its base black; tegulae yellowish­brown; wings hyaline; pterostigma and veins dark brown; parastigma brownish; legs almost yellowish­brown entirely; fore tibia and tarsus yellowish; mid coxa and femur, hind coxa and femur brownish; carapace with two large yellowish brown spots basally, lamella at ventral yellowish.

Male. In general, similar to female, but differs in having 22 antennal segments; length of metasoma 2.0 times its maximum width in dorsal view (Fig. 5 A); carapace with an elliptical apical opening; black entirely (Fig. 5 B, D).

Etymology

From “longqi”, referring to the locality of type specimen.
