Distribution. Japan (Shinji 1938).

Biology. Reared from unknown galls on Q. mongolica Fisch. ex Ledeb. or Q. dentata ( Quercus section), according to the original description.

Remarks. Shinji (1938) observed P. quereicola ovopositing in swollen terminal branches on Quercus . For the first time the combination Ceroptres quereicola (Shinji, 1938) appeared in Liljeblad (2002). Abe et al. (2007) suggested that C. quereicola should be treated as an unplaced species within Ceroptres . Later, Liljeblad et al. (2008) formally transferred P. quereicola to Ceroptres . We could not examine the type material of this species because it is lost (Liljeblad et al. 2008), and the original description does not allow us to differentiate the species from the rest of Ceroptres . Hence, we here propose to place Ceroptres quereicola (Shinji, 1938) as nomen dubium until the original material is found, since we do not doubt it is a Ceroptres .
