Key to the microphthalmous Lathrobium species of Turkey

The keys to Turkish microphthalmous species in Assing (2001, 2007) are modified as follows:

1. Eyes strongly reduced, without ommatidia................................................................. 2.

- Eyes less reduced, with> 30 ommatidia................................................................... 4.

2. Eyes completely reduced, without ommatidia or pigmentation; aedeagus almost symmetric....... L. brignolii Bordoni, 1980

- Eyes barely visible in dorsal view, without distinct ommatidia, but with pigmentation; aedeagus strongly asymmetric...... 3.

3. Head with pronounced microreticulation; pronotum narrower in relation to head; aedeagus smaller, 0.60–0.65 mm .......................................................................................... L. distortum Assing, 2007

- Head with shallow microreticulation; pronotum broader in relation to head; aedeagus larger, approximately 0.90 mm ......................................................................................... L. deforme Assing, 2007

4. Colouration of forebody lighter; apical sclerotized structure of internal sac in the aedeagus shaped like a basally curved and apically straight spine..................................................................... L. newtoni sp. n.

- Colouration of the forebody darker; apical sclerotized structure of internal sac in the aedeagus shaped like a barb or hook apically............................................................................................... 5.

5. Abdomen finely and densely punctate; aedeagus in lateral view with ventral process weakly and smoothly bent; dorso-apical sclerite in lateral view wider.................................................... L. paphlagonicum Assing, 2001

- Abdomen on average more coarsely and not densely punctate; aedeagus in lateral view with ventral process more distinctly and more abruptly bent; dorso-apical sclerite in lateral view narrow............................................. 6.

6. Colouration of body lighter; male sternum VIII with pubescence present also along median line, with slightly smaller emargination in median posterior area; apical sclerotized structure of internal sac in aedeagus shaped like a barb in lateral view..................................................................................... L. uncinatum Assing, 2001

- Colouration of body darker; male sternum VIII without pubescence along median line, with larger emargination in median posterior area; apical sclerotized structure of internal sac in aedeagus shaped like a hook in lateral view............................................................................................... L. bodemeyeri Bernhauer, 1903
