Macrourus sclerorhynchus Valenciennes, 1838: 80, Pl. 14, fig. 1. Type locality: Canaries, Atlantic Ocean. Nezumia sclerorhynchus, Galil & Goren, 1994: 50; Goren & Galil, 1997: 201, 2002: 151.

Distribution. Atlantic, Mediterranean; depth range 450–800. In the Levant maximum known depth is 1500 m (Galil & Goren, 1994).
