Type species. Talitrus gracilis Dana, 1852 .

Included species. Talorchestia includes 7 species (sensu stricto). T. brucei Lowry & Springthorpe, 2009; T. gracilis (Dana, 1852); T. martensii (Weber, 1892); T. mindorensis Oleröd, 1970; T. morinoi Othman & Azman, 2007; T. spinipalma (Dana, 1852); T. terraereginae Haswell, 1880 .

Diagnostic description (based on male). Antenna 1 short, rarely longer than article 4 of antenna 2 peduncle. Antenna 2 peduncular articles slender or slightly incrassate; article 3 without plate or process ventrally. Mandible left lacinia mobilis 5-dentate. Maxilliped palp article 2 distomedial lobe well developed, article 4 fused with article 3. Gnathopod 1 subchelate, parachelate; posterior margin of carpus and propodus each with lobe covered in palmate setae. Gnathopod 2 subchelate; posterior margin of merus, carpus and propodus each without lobe covered in palmate setae; dactylus not modified distally. Pereopods 3–7 cuspidactylate. Pereopod 4 dactylus thickened proximally with a notch midway along posterior margin. Pereopods 6–7 not sexually dimorphic. Pleonites 1–3 without dorsal spines. Pleopods all well developed. Epimera 1–3 without stridulating organ just above ventral margins. Uropod 1 outer ramus without marginal robust setae. Uropod 3 ramus shorter than peduncle. Telson apically incised, at least 6 robust setae.

Remarks. Since the revision of Morino & Miyamoto (1988), Serejo (2009) has synonymised Talorchestia palawanensis Morino & Miyamoto, 1988 with T. terraereginae Haswell, 1880 and two species, T. brucei Lowry & Springthorpe, 2009 and T. morinoi Othman & Azman, 2007, have been described.
