Diagnosis: A subspecies similar in its carapace outline to obovata obovata Swain, but with a more or less blunt spine in approximately the posterior dorso-median position on each valve.

Holotype: Carapace, SMF Xe 4812.

Paratypes: Not mentioned.

Dimensions: Holotype, length 1.25mm, height 0.76mm, width 0.54mm.
