Holotype: ♂, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (formerly Zaire, Congo Free State, Belgian Congo), “riv. Molindi, entre Kirumba-lac Kibuga, 1000m, 31.iv–2.v.1934 (Mission G.F. de Witte)” (IRSNB). Seen in IRSNB, Cabinet 41, “Parc National Albert” Box 1 during Knutson’s review of Verbeke’s material in 1978. The male specimen from L. Karago, published as a paratype by Verbeke, was found in Box 1, Cabinet 150 (genitalia not prepared) and is labelled “ Holotypus (error) kivuana Verb.,” “Coll. Mus. Congo, Ruanda: L. Karago, 21.iii.36, L. Lippens, 32,” “ Type ” “R. Det. A 5415”, J. Verbeke det. 1949, Graphomyzina kivuana n. sp. ” NIGERIA: Zaria, Samaru, lake shore 2♀, 9.ii.1966 (CU); 2♂ 1♀, 20.ii.1966 (USNM); 1♂, 5.iii.1966 (IARS); 1♀, same date (CU); 1♀, same date (USNM); Samaru, irrig. ditch 16.ii.1966; 1♂, (IARS); 1♂, same date (USNM); 1♂, same date (CU) (all collected by Deeming).
