Distribution. Western Atlantic—Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina)

Previous records. São Sebastião (Anker & Pachelle 2014); locality not mentioned (Christoffersen 1998, as S. latastei tenuispina Coutière, 1909).

Remarks. Our specimens match the descriptions and illustrations provided by Coutière (1909) and Anker & Pachelle (2014). The species complex formed by S. tenuispina and S. africanus Crosnier & Forest, 1965 needs a revision including a molecular analysis. To date, the Brazilian form should be treated as S. tenuispina (Anker et al. 2012; Anker & Pachelle 2014). GenBank accession number: CCDB 3421—16S (KU312992).
