Previous records. São Sebastião (Christoffersen 1979, as A. normanni; Amaral et al. 2010, as A. normanni); no new material provided (Christoffersen 1998, as A. normanni).
Remarks. Alpheus packardii is part of the A. normanii complex (Anker 2001; Williams et al. 2001; A. Anker, in preparation). Although distributed throughout the eastern Atlantic, there are some records of A. normanii in the western Atlantic (e.g. Christoffersen 1979; 1998; Martínez-Iglesias et al. 1996 /1997). Specimens from the western Atlantic may correspond to A. packardii or other species within the A. normanii complex (see Soledade & Almeida 2013; Anker et al. 2016 for more details). Since the definitive identity of our material is currently unknown, until the taxonomic review is completed (A. Anker, in preparation) we rather assign it to A. cf. packardii, as done previously (e.g. Almeida et al. 2012a; Soledade & Almeida 2013; Soledade et al. 2015). GenBank accession number: CCDB 4850—16S (KU312974).
