Type: Puerto Rico: S side Luquillo Mountains, El Toro trail, 2 km from route 191, 13 Oct 1964, R.A. Howard & G. Taylor 15692 (holotype, A [A00077564] ; isotypes, BM [BM000815969], LE, MO [MO- 638820], NY [NY00111390], US [US-3079749, barcode US00027856]).

Distribution. Endemic to the Luquillo Mountains in eastern Puerto Rico; known only from the East Peak region in the Bosque Nacional del Caribe from 150 to 200 m elevation in deep, wooded ravines.
