Chironomus acidophilus Keyl
Chromosome set is 2n = 8. Chromosome AE is submetacentric, chromosomes CD and BF are metacentric, chromosome G—telocentric. Chromosome G has three BRs, however one of them is not always expressed. The two dark large bands, near to the telomere of chromosome G are markers of the species (Fig. 14). The NOR is near to the centromere region of the chromosome G. On this region the homologues are unpaired (Fig. 14). Chromosome variability of the species is expressed by two types of aberrations: inherited and somatic (Michailova et al. 2009). These authors discussed the appearance of the specific puff at the telomere of chromosome G as a compensatory mechanism in response to environmental conditions. Thirty-five individuals were analyzed.
