Scydmaenilla (Scydmaenilla) sp.

(Figs. 84–92)

Material studied. Ƥ: three labels (Fig. 88): " Australia / 1912-22 " [white, printed, first line underlined in pink], "Sydney / Lea" [white, printed], " Scydmaenilla / pusilla King / A.M.Lea det." [white, printed and handwritten in black] (NHM).

Remarks. This is a species erroneously identified as S. pusilla by Lea, and later Franz's (1975) redescription was also based on the same misidentified specimen. Lea (1910) mentioned that S. pusilla was collected in nests of an ant Pachycondyla lutea (Mayr) (as Ponera) and certainly this information refers to the misidentified Scydmaenilla sp. Although this is a remarkably slender and flattened Scydmaenilla s. str. clearly different from all other congeners, I refrain from a formal description of a new species until a male has been found.
