Plecostomus fluviatilis Schubart 1964a: 7, figs. 1 and 4.
Syntypes: EEBP 282, 3 (1 measured), 160.0 mm SL (Figure 4): Brazil, Minas Gerais, Ouro Fino, Mogi-Guaçu River at Espraiado waterfall, tributary of Grande River, tributary of the Paraná River, 24 Oct 1948 .
Remarks. Currently, the species is valid as Hypostomus fluviatilis (Schubart 1964) (see Isbŗcker 1980).
Three lots were employed by Schubart (1964a: 8) in the original description of Plecostomus fluviatilis, viz. EEBP 282 and 658 (2 specimens) and MNRJ uncatalogued (1 specimen). In the terms of Articles 72 and 73 of the Code (ICZN 1999), all those specimens constitute the type series and are syntypes, remaining as such until a lectotype is designated.
The lot we found has the right catalog number (EEBP 282) and locality as provided by Schubart (1964a: 8). This led us to recognize the individuals as part of the syntypes of P. fluviatilis .
