Knowltonia alleni (Cazier), new combination
Chrysobothris alleni Cazier, 1938:15; Fisher, 1942:243.
Chrysobothris biramosa biramosa: Nelson, 1966:39 (part; misidentification).
This species is known only from Arizona and Colorado (Fisher, 1942). In color it ranges from green to copper to dark brown, and elytral markings, if present, are postmedian and subdued or in distinct. We have examined one exception, a green female with a broad apical violaceous apical elytral marking. Unlike the other species, nothing has been recorded of its habits, and relatively few specimens have been collected. However, we examined a good series from Arizona, Coconino Co., Moenave, 24-VI-67, taken on Atriplex canescens, ASUC. As Cazier (1938) stated, this species comes closest to K. atrifasciata . It may prove to be only subspecifically distinct.
