C. nubeculipennis Bezzi, 1901

Conops nubeculipennis Bezzi, 1901: 21 –22; type-locality: “ Sabarguma ”, “ Keren ” [Eritrea]; syntypus 2♂ 1♀ [pro parte MSNM]

Diagnosis. Body mainly orange-brown, without yellow markings. Antenna unicolorous orange. Frons with distinct transverse grooves. No spot laterally on border between frons and face. Face uniformly whitish. Parafacia and antennal grooves, but not gena, dusted. Labium distinctly longer than head length. Palps absent. Thorax reddish brown with at most an obscure blackish midline on the scutum. Stripe of dense dusting from mid coxa to notopleuron. Legs uniformly orange to brown, with black tarsi. Posterior surfaces of fore and middle tibiae with flattened, densely dusted fields. At least apical two-thirds of middle femur posteriorly with a row of regularly arranged, long black hairs. Wing cells br and bm more or less without microtrichia. Wing hyaline, only tip of radial cell r1 and r2+3 and adjacent areas more or less darkened. Short, blunt spicules on posterior surface of theca not arranged in palisade groups or in close-set, broken horizontal lines.

Conops atrogonius Séguy, 1930: 134; type-locality: “Rabat”, “Mogador” [Morocco]; syntypus 1♂ 1♀ [MNHN] The two syntypes of Conops atrogonius in the MNHN have been examined, and both belong to C. nubeculipennis . C. atrogonius is therefore proposed as a junior synonym of C. nubeculipennis .
