Dacnis modesta Cabanis, 1873a: 64 .

Type series: Cabanis (1873a: 64) explicitly based this species on a single female, which is thus its holotype (see also Taczanowski 1875: 510). The specimen is deposited in the MIZ (Sztolcman & Domaniewski 1927: 179, Mlíkovský 2009b), although Taczanowski (1889) omitted it from the list of type specimens housed in the MIZ.
Holotype: MIZ 34287 (P.2582), Ƥ, collected by Jelski on 29 October 1870 at "Monterico" [= Monterrico, Peru].
Type locality: "Monterico" (Cabanis 1873a: 64), i.e. Monterrico, Peru [12.05°S, 74.10°W].
