Sergipe: Mun. of Salgado, no solo (úmido), 11º01’29”S, 37º28’18”W, 120 m elev., 10 Oct 2018, F. S. Dantas 94 (holotype ASE [ac. 42094!], isotype SP [ac. 517232!]).

Gametophytes small-sized (2.0– 3.5 mm tall), green-yellowish in color, curved, forming shoots erect-expanded; basal leaves deltoid (0.5 mm long), apex apiculate, costa absent; intermediate leaves oblong-lanceolate (1.0– 1.5 mm long), apex subulate, costa percurrent; perichaetial leaves oblong-ovate (2.0–3.0 mm long), apex subulate and strongly falcate, flexuose, entire or serrate above, costa sub-percurrent; laminal cells rectangular, with irregular walls. Subfloral innovations present. Sporophytes mature arcuate, seta short; capsule pendulous, subglobose, exothecial cells with thickened walls; spores papillose, ca. 100 µm in diameter.

Specimens examined (paratypes): — BRAZIL. Bahia: Mun. of Ilhéus, restinga vegetation near the sea, 14 Jul 1991, D. M. Vital & W. R. Buck 20094 (NY, SP); Mun. of Jacobina, on wet soil, in sparse caatinga vegetation, 19 May 1978, D. M. Vital 8073b (SP); Mun. of Paulo Afonso, Reserva Biológica do Raso da Catarina, in partial shade, on soil, in a caatinga vegetation, 23 May 1978, D. M. Vital 8171 (NY, SP) . Paraná: Mun. of Sengés, on arenitic rocky substratum covered with a thin layer of soil, 15 Aug 1984, D. M. Vital 11405 (SP) . Sergipe: Mun. of Estância, secondary shrub, ruderal, on soil, 50m elev., 12 Jul 1987, Schäfer-Verwimp & Verwimp 8719 (SP) .

Distribution: —Endemic to Brazil (states of Bahia, Paraná, and Sergipe).

Ecology and habitat: — Eccremidium brasiliense grows on moist soil and rocky substrates covered by a thin layer of sand, in habitats ranging from partially shaded to sun-exposed. It occurs within Caatinga and Atlantic Forest vegetation, including restinga, at elevations of 50– 650 m. This species is rare, a condition possibly related to its small size and ephemeral nature, typically forming small tufts associated with other moss species (Vital & Egunyomi 1984).

Etymology: —The specific epithet brasiliense refers to the geographic distribution of the species, which is currently known only from Brazil.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/FA43055C5B59FFE6FF68E006FE17FD75	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
