However, it can be readily differentiated from the latter by the following characters: 1) apical band notched posteriorly (Fig. 5 A vs. complete); 2) pterostigmal band narrow, approximately as wide as half of apical band (Fig. 5 A vs. wider than half of apical band); 3) dorsocaudal horns on A 6 greatly elongated (Fig. 5 D vs. extremely short); and 4) hypovalves simple in lateral view (Fig. 5 D vs. ram’s horn-like terminally).

Etymology.

The new species is named after its type locality, the Chumbi Valley. Noun in apposition.

Description.

Male: Head (Fig. 5 A). Rostrum slender and dark brown; vertex and occiput black. Scape yellowish brown, anterior part of pedicel blackish, posterior part yellowish brown; 54 flagellomeres dark-brown.

Thorax (Fig. 5 A). Pronotum black, lacking strong setae along anterior margin. Meso- and metanotum dark brown in anterior portion and yellowish brown in hind portion. Legs evenly dark yellowish brown, with apex of tibia and distal tarsomeres blackish.

Wings (Fig. 5 A). Membrane subhyaline, tinged with yellow and deeply yellowish brown along longitudinal veins. Markings brown. Pterostigma deep yellowish brown. Apical band broad, notched posteriorly and ending near M 1; pterostigmal band narrow, with basal branch broader than three times width of apical branch. Forewing Rs six-branched, with R 2 trifurcated; M 4 greatly bent at m-cu; 1 A ending proximal to ORs; one cross-vein between 1 A and 2 A. Hindwings similar to forewings, lacking cu-a.

Abdomen (Fig. 5 A, D). Terga and sterna unevenly dark-reddish brown. Notal organ on T 3 stick-like, extending approximately to end of A 6. A 6 cylindrical, with two elongated, curved, and subacute dorsocaudal horns. A 7 greatly constricted at basal half and broadening towards truncated apex; A 8 as long as A 7 and slightly curved at base and beveled at apex.

Male genitalia (Figs 5 C, 5 E – H, 6). Genital bulb long elliptical without constricted basal stalk. Epandrium emarginated terminally with two long finger-like lobes. Cerci slender and finger-shaped. Epandrial lobes stout. Hypandrium with broad basal stalk. Hypovalves broad, bilobed subapically. Gonostyli bearing numerous long setae in basal portion, shorter than gonocoxites with indistinct median process and slightly enlarged and subglobular basal lobe; basal half swollen on ventral side. Pheromone glands whitish, broad. Parameres broad, twisted lanceolate, and bearing numerous microtrichia along membranous inner margin, with middle portion strongly protruding outward. Dorsal bridge slender. Stalk of parameres basally connected. Ventral aedeagal valves subconical, membranous, and covered with microtrichia. Dorsal aedeagal valves strongly sclerotized and short. Dorsal processes short. Lateral processes broad. Piston of sperm pump strong with thick lateral processes.

Female: unknown.

Distribution

(Fig. 13; Table 1). China (Xizang: Yadong County). Given that this species was discovered near the China-India-Bhutan border, it may occur also in Bhutan and India.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/AACC0E9401E75F29811EBC19CB460CC2	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. This condition closely resembles that observed in Minorpa Xie & Wang, 2025 and Wornorpa Xie & Wang, 2025 ( Panorpinae). However, the markedly elongated rostrum, enlarged second apical tooth of the pretarsal claws, and absence of the cu-a vein in the hindwings clearly support their placement within Neopanorpinae .

Etymology.

The genus name is combined from the ancient Sanskrit name for the Western Ghats mountain range in India, Sahyadri (benevolent or tolerant mountains) and - norpa (root suffix for Panorpa). The markedly enlarged notal organ on male T 3 (Fig. 12 D, E) even resembles that of Panorpa clavigera Klapálek, 1902, a member of the subfamily Panorpinae; however, the two taxa are readily distinguished by subfamilial characters (Wang and Hua 2021). The subapical processes on the inner margin of the hypovalves (Fig. 12 H, J, K) and the overall configuration of the aedeagal complex (Fig. 12 H, J, K) are similar to those of Sahyadrinorpa gen. nov., whereas the reduced gonostyli, the presence of epandrial lobes (Fig. 12 F), and the elongated lateral processes of the aedeagus (Fig. 12 J) clearly differentiate the present genus from the latter. The female medigynium is similar to those of Sahyadrinorpa gen. nov. in having a well-developed main plate but can be differentiated by the concealed and parallel apodemes (Fig. 12 M vs. elongated beyond main plate and divergent basally, Fig. 11 Q, R).

Etymology.

This new genus is named in honor of Professor Zi-Wei Yin (Shanghai Normal University) in recognition of his generous contribution of specimens.
