All paratypes with the appropriate printed red label .

Description of male holotype. Habitus (Fig. 1). TL = 10.9 mm. Body typical for Hexagoniini, elongate, depressed, with large head and elongate mandibles. Elytra elongate, flat, widest in apical third, weakly split apically, with a blunt but distinct sutural tooth. Tarsi wide, pad-shaped.

Colouration. Surface black; labrum, mandibles, antennomeres and legs (including coxae) brown; palpomeres and tarsi red brown.

Head. Subquadrate, slightly elongate (HL/HW = 1.03), and relatively large, distinctly narrower than pronotum (HW/PW = 0.76), and posteriorly narrowed to distinct neck constriction. Eyes prominent but relatively small, shorter than oblique tempora, which are about one-quarter longer than eyes. Antennae stout, not reaching base of pronotum. Frontal foveae deep, longitudinally oval, with few irregular wrinkles; frons otherwise smooth, without distinct microsculpture. Two pairs of setae present: anterior pair between eyes and posterior pair on posterior part of vertex. Vertex finely punctate. Mentum very similar to that depicted for D. plantigradum in Andrewes (1932: 258, Fig. 4), but anterior margin of ligula very distinctly and relatively deeply V-shaped, similar to that of species of Hexagonia . Paraglossa long, longer than ligula, narrow, lanceolate, and asetose.

Pronotum. Transverse (PL/PW = 0.86), sides convex, indistinctly sinuate before distinct, sharp, denticle-like protruding posterior angles. Basal foveae deep, short. Median sulcus distinct, deep, not reaching anterior or posterior pronotal margin. Pronotal disc with some shallow, indistinct transverse wrinkles, otherwise smooth, without visible linear microsculpture, only extremely minutely micropunctate. Lateral pronotal depression wide, lateral sulcus connecting lateral bead in basal fifth. Anterior lateral pronotal seta present, inserted in half length of pronotum at its widest point; basolateral seta absent. Pronotal epipleuron with traces of ± isodiametric microsculpture.

Elytra. Elongate (EL/EW = 1.56), distinctly wider than pronotum (EW/PW = 1.40). Elytral striae deep, distinctly punctate. Scutellar stria and parascutellar pore present. Subbasal ridge present, complete, reaching from humerus to scutellar stria. Elytral intervals flat on elytral disc, slightly convex laterally. Elytral interval III with three pores: anterior one in basal 0.15 of elytral length, touching stria 3; middle pore in elytral mid-length, touching or close to stria 2; posterior pore at four fifths of elytral length, close to stria 2. Elytral interval V with one pore in two thirds of elytral length, near stria 5. Elytral intervals with weak isodiametric microsculpture in apical third; anteriorly, microsculpture recognizable only along elytral striae. Umbilical series widely interrupted in middle, anteriorly with 6, posteriorly with 8 setae. Elytral epipleuron with weak but distinct isodiametric to slightly transverse microsculpture.

Legs. Tibiae multicarinate. Tarsomeres very wide, depressed, ventrally covered with dense pilosity.

Ventral side. Prosternite and proepisternites smooth, without recognisable microsculpture. Prosternal apophysis not bordered. Metepisternite elongate, approximately twice as long as wide in front. Meso- and metathoracal sclerites and abdominal ventrites with weak but distinct isodiametric to slightly transverse microsculpture. Abdominal ventrite VI with one pair of setae near posterior margin.

Male genitalia. Median lobe of aedeagus in dorsal view with long, slender apex, similar to those of D. plantigradum (see Andrewes 1932: 260, Fig. 6b); apex of median lobe distinctly bent ventrally in lateral view (Fig. 8). Right paramere larger and wider than left paramere, both asetose.

Female. There are no differences in external morphology or in body proportions between male and female.

Variability. Specimens of the type series show very little variability. Minor variations can be found only in the proportions of some body parts: TL = 9.8–11.1 mm; head as long as wide to very slightly elongate (HL/HW = 1.00– 1.03), but always distinctly narrower than pronotum (HW/PW = 0.75–0.81); pronotum very slightly less transverse in paratypes than in holotype (PL/PW = 0.88–0.90); on the other hand, elytra slightly longer in all paratypes (EL/ EW = 1.59); EW/PW = 1.38–1.48, the highest value being found in the female paratype.

Differential diagnosis. The new species can be distinguished from all other species of Dinopelma by the combination of its large body size, absence of basolateral pronotal setae, broadly rounded lateral margins of the pronotum, giving it an almost cordiform shape, subdentate elytral apex (Fig. 1), and male genitalia (Fig. 8). The only other species lacking a basolateral pronotal seta is D. angustum from Borneo, which differs in having the lateral margins of the pronotum much less convex (Fig. 2), eyes larger than the tempora, and the apex of the median lobe straight in lateral view (Fig. 9). Dinopelma intermedium, another Bornean species, is the only other known species of Dinopelma with a cordiform pronotum (Fig. 3). It differs from D. pandanicola sp. nov. in its smaller body size (8 mm), presence of the basolateral pronotal seta, much shorter and more strongly convex tempora, more transverse pronotum that is widest in the anterior third and distinctly sinuate before the posterior angles, and less elongate elytra. Finally, Dinopelma plantigradum, also from Borneo, resembles D. pandanicola sp. nov. in general habitus, large size, relatively small eyes, and long tempora, but differs in having a subquadrate pronotum (see Andrewes 1932: 257, Fig. 2), a ligula without an apical incision (Andrewes 1932: 258, Fig. 4), and antennae reaching the base of the pronotum.

Collection circumstances. All specimens in the type series were found concealed in the leaf axils of various Pandanaceae, especially Freycinetia Gaudich. and Pandanus Parkinson, in remnants of degraded rain forest. At the locality “Haze Kaffe”, the new species was collected together with Hexagonia andrewesi Jedlička, 1935 and H. amicitia Anichtchenko, Sciaky & Medina, 2022 .

Etymology. The name pandanicola means “the one who lives on Pandanus plant” and refers to the collection circumstances of the new species; the specific epithet is a noun in nominative singular, standing in apposition.

Distribution. The species is currently known from two localities in central and northern Mindanao, approximately 135 km apart. This distribution suggests that D. pandanicola sp. nov. is probably widespread on Mindanao Island.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/EF50B85C7B1046525CFD433D35D6FBDC	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Dorsal surface piceous or metallic; head and pronotum brown, elytra typically yellow brown with darker brown longitudinal stripes of variable width on intervals II–III to II–VI (Figs 6– 7), or elytra monochromatically yellow brown in immature specimens (Figs 4–5). Pronotum subquadrate, transverse, 1.10–1.25 wider than long; basolateral seta of pronotum present. Elytral interval V with a pore.

Comments to classification. Andrewes (1932) described D. lineola based on five specimens from the Philippines (Mindanao), Borneo, Java, and Malaysia (Perak), and D. marginatum based on four specimens from the Philippines (Mindanao, Basilan). In the original description, a holotype was explicitly designated for D. lineola (“Type (Surigao) in my collection”; Andrewes 1932: 264), whereas all specimens of D. marginatum must be regarded as syntypes. To fix the identity of the latter species and support the synonymy proposed below, we designate here a lectotype (a male from Surigao) of D. marginatum .

Study of the available type material of D. lineola and D. marginatum, together with recently collected specimens from various parts of Mindanao, demonstrates that all belong to a single, variable species. Elytral colouration is notably variable, ranging from uniformly yellowish-brown in immature specimens (Figs 4–5) to individuals with dark longitudinal stripes of varying width (from very light to dark brown on intervals II–III to II–VI, separated by a paler sutural interval; Figs 6–7). The colour differences mentioned in the original descriptions thus represent only the extreme ends of this variation.

Variation is also observed in pronotal proportions, including the ratio of pronotal width to head width and other measured indices; however, no consistent or significant differences were detected in the material examined. Likewise, the structure of the aedeagus shows no meaningful differences (Figs 10–11). Although the lectotype of D. marginatum had been dissected previously and lacks the membranous parts (inner sac) of the median lobe (Fig. 10), its overall morphology—including size and especially the shape of the apex—matches that of the holotype of D. lineola .

Finally, both nominal species are based on specimens from the same area, the former province of Surigao in northeastern Mindanao. Considering these findings, we propose the following subjective synonymy: Dinopelma lineola Andrewes, 1932 = D. marginatum Andrewes, 1932, syn. nov. Because both names were established in the same publication, their precedence is determined by the First Reviser (ICZN 1999: Article 24.2). We select D. lineola as the valid name due to the better preservation of its male genitalia.

Collecting circumstances. The single specimen from Mt. Parker was found resting on vegetation in a montane broadleaved forest; the immature specimen from Mt. Sinaka was attracted to a UV light trap placed within a dense secondary forest.

Distribution. The most widely distributed Dinopelma species, currently recorded from Peninsular Malaysia (Perak), East Malaysia (Sabah), Indonesia (Java), and the Philippines (Basilan and Mindanao).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/EF50B85C7B1646535CFD46DD34F2F9A8	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply.
