In the present study, a mature male larva and adult specimens of the species were collected from Habahe County, Altay Prefecture near the type locality (Figs. 3–4, 21c–21d). The mature male larva can be readily associated with male adults based on the external genitalia and habitus. This finding offers critical taxonomic support for linking the larval and adult stages, thereby enhancing our understanding of the life history of this species.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/E97987F58010101EFF30FC0F4DBEF89E	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. The species was described from Manas County, Xinjiang, based on specimens of both adult stages and associated eggs. In addition, the barcode gene) was sequenced (Chen & Ma, 2023). This study represents the first morphology-based association of mature male and female larval stages with male and female adults. A supplementary description of the male aedeagus is also provided. The aedeagus of this species is similar to that of Filchneria wusuensis Chen, 2019 (see figs. 14–22 in Teslenko and Palatov, 2021b) and F. urumqiensis (Figs. 14b–14d, 15). Filchneria tianshana can be distinguished from the two similar species by the smooth triangular anterior area of tergum 8 and the broad, bilobed, and rounded female subgenital plate, with a shallow, triangular posterior notch. On F. wusuensis, the anterior smooth area of tergum 8 is T-like with a subapical transverse bar, and the female subgenital plate is broad and rounded, with a deep, rectangular posterior notch. On F. urumqiensis, the anterior smooth area of tergum 8 is T-like with a rounded apex, and the female subgenital plate is broad, with a large, semicircular notch (compare Figs. 8–9 and Figs. 14–16 with figs. 14–22 in Teslenko and Palatov, 2021b).

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/E97987F58019100AFF30F8C84A27FCD6	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. Although the male aedeagus has been previously described, its morphology remains unclear and is further clarified in this study. The species comparison refers to F. tianshana (see above). This study provides the first morphological description of the larval stage, offering essential data for a full life-cycle characterization of the species (Figs. 14–18, 22d–22f).

In addition, 21 female specimens of F. urumqiensis were collected from Manas County, Xinjiang. These specimens exhibit morphological features consistent with those of Filchneria sp. CH-1 reported by Chen & Ma (2023) from the same region. Based on morphological, molecular (see below), and geographic evidence, the species is confirmed as F. urumqiensis .

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/E97987F580061008FF30FF134EE7F89D	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. China (Jilin; Xinjiang). Korea, Russia.

Remarks. This species is the sole representative of the family Pteronarcyidae recorded from China (DeWalt et al. 2025; Yang & Li 2018), previously documented from China (Jilin), Korea, and Russia. This new record from Xinjiang marks a significant westward extension of its known geographic range. Both adult sexes, larvae, eggs, and the complete mitochondrial genome of this species have been thoroughly described, illustrated, and analyzed (Chen 2020; Chen & Du 2020; Nelson 1988; Teslenko & Zhiltzova 2009). Nevertheless, the morphology of the male aedeagus has not yet been reported. This study presents the first detailed description and illustrations of the adult terminalia and aedeagus (Fig. 19) and a complete morphological account of the male larva based on high-resolution imaging of habitus, head and pronotum, legs, and abdominal structures (Fig. 20), providing additional diagnostic characters for species identification.
